Reindex Files

Each file in the system has an index which allows the system to access and sort the records in that file more quickly and efficiently. Sometimes the index can get out of sync with the data file. This causes problems such as records that appear to be missing and other various errors. This utility recreates the index which will make the sotftware more efficient and can fix certain errors.

It's a good idea to reindex and pack the files on a regular basis. You don't have to do unless you get an error or something looks out of place. However, once a month is a good starting point.

Select the files that you would like to re-index by clicking in the box beside them.

All Tables
Instead of clicking in each individual box, it is easier to mark this "All Tables" option. This will mark all of the files at the same time.

Pack
When records are deleted within the software they aren't actually removed from the program, they are only marked as deleted in the file. Once they are marked as deleted you will never see them again so it appears as if they are gone. If you delete a lot of records you will want to "Pack" the tables occassionally as well. This will permanently remove all deleted records from the software. You can think of it like the process of emptying the recycle bin on your desktop. This will keep the size of the table smaller and increase efficiency.
