Dot-Matrix Checks

If you are going to print checks on a dot-matrix printer, the printer the checks will be printed on must be set up correctly under Windows. The printer definition has to have a user-defined paper size. To set up the correct paper size for printing checks, follow these steps:

Windows 95/98

If the Windows printer driver has not been installed for the dot-matrix printer that will be used to print the checks, install it now. Choose Settings, then Printers from the Start menu. Click on the Add Printer button and then select the correct printer from the list. You will need to have the Windows 95/98 installation disks handy. Please refer to Windows help for more information.

Once the printer is installed, choose Properties from the File menu or using the mouse, right-click on the printer icon. Then choose Properties. This will bring up the printer properties for this printer.

Different printer drivers use different methods for specifying the paper size. Choose the Details Tab, click on Setup and click on the Paper tab and choose Custom Size for the paper or click on the Paper tab and choose Custom Size. This brings up the User Defined Size dialog box.

Select a Unit Size of 0.01 inch.

Depending on the type of checks that will be printed, set the length and width as follows:

For checks with no voucher, set the length to 350 and the width to 800.
For checks with a voucher, set the length to 700 and the width to 800.

Choose the OK button on each screen and then the Close button on the printer's screen. This will save your changes.

When checks are to be printed, choose the printer that was just set up from the printer prompt that appears.

Windows 2000/XP

From the Start button choose Printers and Faxes. Then under the File menu select server properties. Check the box to create a new form.

Enter the measurements to print. Press the Apply button then OK.

When checks are to be printed, choose the printer that was just set up from the printer prompt that appears.
