QuickBooks Closing Dates
You can "set a closing date" in QuickBooks under the Company Menu. This allows you to lock down past dates so that QuickBooks will not let you add or edit transactions prior to the date that is closed.
When setting a closing date you will need to set a Date/Password. On the programming side, QuickBooks does not return any information to SherWare if a date is used that is prior to the closing date unless a date/password was also set. If a password is set it will ask us SherWare for the password. From this we can tell that the entry is prior to a closing date and then pass this message on to you.
If you enter a transaction prior to the closing date and have a password set then SherWare will give you a warning message saying "An attempt was made to modify a General Journal transaction with a date that is on or before the closing date of the company. If you are sure you really want to do this please ask a user with Admin priviliges to remove the password for editing the transaction."
