Modifying Check Formats

To modify your check formats, go to Utilities > Owner Check Setup. From here you can choose the same format of your check that you have specified in the Preferences screen under the Edit menu.

This utility is used to make changes to the format of owner checks printed by the system. By using this utility, you can move the information that is printed on the face of a check. Only make changes to the check face. We do not recommend making changes to the stub information.

Choose the type of check that you wish to modify. The type of owner and vendor check is specified in the Check Printing page of the Preferences screen. This brings up the report format utility for the particular check format chosen.

You can modify the format of the following from this menu:

  • Dot-Matrix - (No Stub)
  • Dot-Matrix - (Stub Above)
  • Dot-Matrix - (Stub Below)
  • Laser - (No Stub)
  • Laser - (Stub Above)
  • Laser - (Stub Below)
  • Laser - (Middle Check)
  • Laser Custom Check

For example, if we're modifying the laser check with the stub below the check, choose Laser - (Stub Below).

The stub information should not be moved or removed unless it is not printing correctly. This includes every section below the section titled Group Header 1.
To move the check face information, which is in the section labeled Page Header, click once on the field to move and then use the arrow keys to move the field to where you believe it needs to be. Several of the fields can be selected at the same time and moved together by either using the mouse and drawing a rectangle around them or by clicking on each one while holding down the Shift key.

When you are finished formatting the check, choose File > Save from the menu and then File > Close.

    To move a field
Click once on the field to select it. Then click again and hold while dragging it to the desired location. Then smaller adjustments can be made using the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the field instead of your mouse.

    Stretching a field
Click once on the field to choose it. Then click and hold on the box on the edge of the selected field while moving your cursor to stretch the field. You can also hold the Ctrl key and press your right or left arrow key to stretch a field horizontally.

    Adding a picture
From the Report Controls toolbar click on the Picture/OLE Bound Control button.
Click in the area of the check that you want the picture. Click, drag, and release to make a field the size of the picture that you want.
In the Report Picture screen, browse to the pictures file on your computer and choose all of the other desired settings, then press ok.
Adjust the location and size of the picture if necessary.

If you are adding a graphic to your check format, it needs to be located within the executable folder in order to print correctly, and there should not be any 'print when' expression used for the graphic. For example, if a signature is added to an owner check in the DMIE, then the signature file needs to be located within the DMIE folder, etc.

    Other Features
If you are using blank checks and would like to add text such as "Pay to the order of," "Routing Number," and "Bank Account Number," you do this by clicking on the label button in the report controls toolbar, then click on the check and type the new text information in.

If you are using the MICR characters for the routing and bank account numbers, you would just select the MICR font that is downloaded on your computer as the font for that field.

If you are interested in purchasing the MICR characters from SherWare, Inc. for use on blank stock, please see SherWare, Inc. support for more information.

    The Toolbar
    - Arrow – Allows you to select and move fields.
    - Label – Allows you to add text to the format.
    - Field – Creates a field that can have processing to include calculations or information from a table. This is a pretty advanced and will probably not be used by someone other than a programmer unless directed to.
    - Line – Creates a line.
    - Rectangle – Creates a rectangular box.
    - Rounded Rectangle – Creates a rounded rectangle
    - Picture – Allows you to insert a picture.
    - Button Lock – Locks one of the buttons so you can create multiple fields of the same type without selecting it from the toolbar each time.

Once you set the format up you can print an alignment check from the tasks menu by choosing check processing, print checks, then clicking on the alignment button. You will likely have to do this multiple times as you fine tune the check.
